Help for grown-ups
How can we help?
Find an answer, get unstuck, or tell us how spelling practice is going.
Getting started
Do we need an account to play?
No. Your child can play as a guest, with progress kept in that browser on that device. An account saves progress across devices. A free plan is available, and optional paid plans add more games, lists and children.
How do we join early access?
We're inviting families in small groups. We'll email you an invitation when there's a place. You can play as a guest while you wait.
Request early access. Already invited? Use the link in your invitation to open Create account with your email filled in.
Can we use this week's school spelling list?
Yes. A grown-up can type or paste up to 20 words into a spelling list. A quick pre-test finds which words need practice. There are also about 700 built-in words on spelling paths from kindergarten through grade 5.
Can more than one child play?
The Family plan supports separate child profiles, each with their own progress. Guest play and the Basic and One Child plans have one child profile. See the current options in For grown-ups, Account, Your plan.
Accounts and progress
Where is our progress?
First check that you are using the right child profile and, if you have an account, the same grown-up email as before. A guest's progress stays in the original browser on the original device; signing in on a different device does not retrieve a guest save from another one.
Clearing browser data removes a guest save. To keep it safe or move it to another device:
- On the original device, open For grown-ups, Account, Progress file and choose Save a copy. Keep the downloaded progress file.
- On the other device, complete guest setup if needed, then open For grown-ups, Account, Progress file. Choose Load a copy and select that file. Review the confirmation before replacing the current progress. Save a copy of any progress you want to keep on that device first.
Email us if you need help finding your progress.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
On the Sign in form, enter your grown-up email and choose Forgot password? Use the link in the reset email. Check your spam or junk folder if it has not arrived.
Open Account. If you are still stuck, email support from the address you use for your account.
Where can I see how my child is doing?
Open For grown-ups and choose Progress. Reports show words mastered in practice, words needing more work, and the spellings your child tried. Your spelling lists also have pre-test and practice-test results.
Sound and device help
Why can't we hear the words?
Check the device volume, headphone connection, and whether the browser tab is muted. Tap the speaker in the game to hear the word again. In For grown-ups, Settings, Voice, choose Hear it or pick another voice. The Sound effects setting controls effects; words are always spoken.
Run device checks to test sound and speech.
What if a game looks wrong or stops responding?
Try reloading the page and checking your internet connection. Use an up-to-date browser and run the device checks. If it keeps happening, tell us the device, browser, game, and what happened just before the problem. Before clearing browser data, back up a guest save with For grown-ups, Account, Progress file, Save a copy.
Do we need to install anything?
No. Study Buddy runs in a web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is no app-store app to download.
Plans and payments
What is free, and where do I see plan details?
The Basic plan is free. Optional paid One Child and Family plans add more games and spelling lists; Family adds multiple child profiles. Open For grown-ups, Account, Your plan for current options and prices. Nothing is charged unless a grown-up chooses a paid plan.
A plan given free during early access lasts for the time stated in your invitation or plan details. It does not start charging automatically when that free period ends.
How do I change my plan, update my card or cancel?
For a paid subscription, sign in, then open For grown-ups, Account, Your plan and choose Manage plan. Stripe opens in a new tab for payment details and subscription changes. If you cannot open it, email us.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep the plan until the end of the paid period, then move to Basic. Extra children and lists are kept but paused. Deleting your account instead ends the plan immediately and removes your family's data.
What if a payment looks wrong or I need a refund?
Email us from your account email with the payment date and what looks wrong. Payments are generally not refunded for unused time after cancellation or a plan change. If we charged you twice, after you cancelled, or the wrong amount, we refund what we should not have charged. Any refund rights provided by the law where you live still apply.
Plan changes take effect immediately. A downgrade's unused value becomes credit toward future bills, rather than a payment back to your card. See the terms for cancellation, plan changes and refunds.
Ideas, feedback or a bug?
We would love to hear what works for your family and what could be better. In the app, select Send feedback. A grown-up needs to sign in and verify their email to send it, so we can follow up. You can also email us without an account.
For a problem, include what you were trying to do, what you expected, and what happened instead. The in-app feedback tool lets you review the device and app details included with your message.
